Good morning,
We apologize for the delay in responded to your public records request. We are reaching out to different divisions in reference to the diversity of your request.

Please note in reference to item number six, the Citrus County Deputies do not have a union and therefore do not have a union contract.

In reference to item numbers nine and ten, please be advised that the Citrus County Sheriff's Office does not run and/or operate the Citrus County Jail. It is currently run by core Civic. Please contact Core Civic for that information.

Please also be advised that our records of the citizen's complaints only go back to 2017. Our retention on those records are 1 year. We no longer have records prior to 2017 with regards to specific citizen's complaints. The records prior to 2017, if sustained, would be noted in an employee file, not housed with "citizen's complaints". We still had 2017 as we are a bit behind in our shredding/destruction.

Can you please send me what you have as well as the records retention policy? Is it the policy to destroy all complaints that are not sustained after 1 year? Are these stored anywhere else?

-Sam

From: Citrus County Sheriff's Office

Mr. Sinyangwe,

I am not sure why you mean by "sending you what we have" as I have already sent you the copies of the citizens' complaints you requested for 2017 and 2018 on 10/15/2019. The non-sustained citizens complaint records are not stored anywhere else other than the Internal Affairs Investigator's Office until they are destroyed.

Yes, it is our policy to destroy all non-sustained complaints after one year as per the Records Retention Policy GS1-L from the State of Florida.

I am attaching a copy of our Records Retention and Destruction policy (as requested) as well as a "clip" from the GS1-L for your reference and review.
