Thank you for your response.

Could you please help me understand why the data would need to be reviewed and validated? This would be the same underlying data that you are currently displaying on your website.

Best,

Forest

OIG validates data to confirm the integrity, accuracy, and structure of data before it’s produced. Once the requested data has been pulled, OIG must confirm that the extracted data matches the external information. This process is done through sampling. Other factors must be considered as well such as confirming that no mission sensitive units of the Chicago Police Department (“CPD”) are exposed. Additionally, CPD unit names and numbers that change over time must be checked to ensure they are accurately grouped.

Additionally, the underlying data used to create OIG’s public safety dashboard is extracted through sequel (SQL) queries. Validating the data allows us to confirm that the sequence is proper, which ensures the data matches the dashboard count, as you originally requested. Furthermore, the underlying data is not consolidated into one table for security reasons, which increases the time needed to validate the data.

I would be happy to have the output of the SQL queries, with mission critical information redacted. The rest of the validation checks do not seem required under FOIA.

That should substantially decrease the effort of producing these records.
