To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Arizona Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

All Division of Late Medieval and Reformation Studies (DLMRS) Newsletters from December 1990 through the present, to include Volume 9, Number 2 (November 2001), in which the following summary of DLMRS founder Heiko Oberman's career and views is given: "Oberman received his doctorate in theology under Martin van Rijn [...and] was ordained a minister in the Reformed Church of The Netherlands. [Before teaching at the University of Arizona he taught at] Harvard Divinity School [... and] in the Protestant Theological Faculty at Tubingen. [...] [T]he writings of his third phase [argue that] the sufferings of sixteenth-century (Protestant) exiles recapitulate the sufferings of the ancient Hebrews and anticipate those of the modern Jews and other victims of Nazism. The linkage on the other side, the foes of freedom, ran [...] to medieval realist scholasticism and really to the papacy. He saw in the Reformation movement a grand alliance of Luther, the refugee Protestants, and the heads of the infant nations against the yoke of the Roman papacy [and believed this historical struggle was a reflection of] the cosmic struggle between God and the Devil..." (DLMRS Newsletter Vol. 9, No. 2, pp. 3, 6.)

To the University of Arizona Office of Public Records:

This request cannot be considered fulfilled. The request was for digital copies of public records. The request was not for a link to a web page where the department in question (the Division of Late Medieval and Reformation Studies / DLMRS) chooses to display what it likes to display. The content of that display may be changed at any time by the DLMRS, and it has in fact been changed by the DLMRS within the last year.

To fulfill this records request, public records officers at the University of Arizona need to obtain digital copies of all the DLMRS newsletters, verifying that the collection is in fact complete and not altered or edited by the department in any way, and it needs to provide the digital copies as attachments here. This will create a permanent, publicly accessible archive which the University of Arizona Office of Public Records has obtained and verified as complete and unedited. When the request has been properly fulfilled, members of the public will be able to access these public records at any time through this website, whether or not the DLMRS chooses to continue displaying them.

The collection self-posted by the Division of Late Medieval and Reformation Studies (DLMRS) and accessible through this link:

appears to be complete at this point and accessible through drop-down menus for each portion of the collection. I have created a hard copy archive of all the issues made available by the DLMRS and below I have provided links to each of those currently posted. If at any point the DLMRS takes portions of the collection off the website, MuckRock can contact me to request that the hard copies be scanned and uploaded here.
