Providing proof of death in a request

I just submitted an embargoed request to FBI HQ regarding a civil rights era cold case racial murder. Don’t I need to include proof of death? If so, how do I go about doing that?

I recently saw a MuckRock request for FBI files on Christopher Hitchens. There, the requestor included a hyperlink to a NY Times article discussing his death. If my memory is correct, without a hyperlink to a newspaper obituary, some other proof of death may be necessary such as a scan of a newspaper obituary or a copy of the individual’s death certificate.
