To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Your office's catalog, inventory, index, log, report, or other listing of (1) the books in your possession or control which registrars used to record birth, marriages, deaths, and burials before 1900 (including any Land Records books and/or Town or Proprietors Meeting/Minutes/Record books which include any records of birth, marriages and deaths) and (2) other books, records, and documents in your possession or control which index, copy, regroup, reference or support town birth, deaths and marriages, including communications or reports of communication from ministers, justices of the peace, sextons, and other witnesses to any aspect of births, marriages, burials, and/or deaths prior to 1900.

I also request that, if possible and pursuant to Conn. Gen. Stat. § 1-212(d), fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest and not made for commercial gain. The requested documents will be processed by a representative of the news media/press and made available to the public at MuckRock.com.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 4 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Linda MacLachlan

Ms. MacLachlan,

Per your request we have no such records responsive to your request.

Also just a reminder that in Connecticut Vital Records do not fall under the freedom of information statutes.
Thank you

I am aware that Connecticut Vital Records do not fall under the freedom of information statutes. I am also aware that Waliingford's old vital records are largely scattered through your Deed Books, which I do not need a list of. I seek your list of all the other books, notebooks, and other documents in your vault in which genealogists may find early vital records. These are precious documents so you must have some way of tracking them.
Thank You,
Linda MacLachlan

Your office sent such a list titled “Original Town Records Survey, Pre-1820” to the Connecticut State Library’s History and Genealogy Section a century ago. Though I would prefer an update, I will accept that for starters
Thank You,
Linda MacLachlan

To follow up to your request:
We have no record of that list, how Title searchers or Genealogists search for records in our Land record is by spending hours searching through

the indexes and land records to find these on there own.
we do not provide this service for anyone.
I am afraid we have no records that pertain to your request

I am not concerned about searching your land records because I can access them online. My questions are about two other books:
(1) a book called "Proprietor's Records" at least 51 pages long containing vital records from 1671 to 1679; and
(2)a book of at least 102 pages containing 1772-1787 records kept by Oliver Stanley, Justice of the Peace .
I would like to come to Wallingford to examine their contents. Can you simply assure me that you have them?
Thank you,
Linda MacLachlan

From: Town Clerk

After much research we have a Proprietor's book , that does not appear
when glancing through it to have many vital records - and we have an
index referring to the OS volumes - but have no idea where they are

not sure there is much there for you to come in and look at, as we can
not allow you into our vitals room, we can bring out books you request -
and copies of old Vitals are still $20 per copy
