U VA perfusion salary request

Dear Tom: I am writing to acknowledge receipt by the University of Virginia of your request for records under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., for the following records: To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

I am requesting, from 01/01/2012 to present, records of: name, position, hire date, official salary or rate of pay (on an annual basis) for anyone with the word 'perfusion' in their job title.

I discussed my request with the Virginia FOIA council and they advised: "Generally speaking, accounting records showing payments made to an individual would be open to public disclosure, but notations regarding the type of pay or reasons for payment may be withheld as personnel information. Please see AO-01-21 which discussed salary/rate of pay, payroll, and accounting records in detail."

Therefore, in addition, I am also requesting accounting records from 01/01/2012 to present showing name and aggregate total annual (calendar year preferred, but fiscal year acceptable) payments made to any individuals with the word 'perfusion' in their job title as well.

If you need any further clarification or if there is any way to reduce the labor required to produce these records in this detail, please let me know.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available.

Attached you will find records responsive to your request.  As noted in our response to your previous case V003045, records prior to 2018 are housed in Va. Code §2.2-3704(F) provides that a “public body may make reasonable charges not to exceed its actual cost” in fulfilling a FOIA request and, “shall make all reasonable efforts to supply the requested records at the lowest possible cost.”  Further, public bodies shall “inquire of the requester whether he would like to request a cost estimate in advance of the supplying of the requested records.” Any costs we incur in estimating the cost of supplying the requested records shall be applied toward the overall charges to be paid for the supplying of such requested record.”  In this case, the University can provide a free estimate of costs, provided below broken down by category and date range.
