To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

List of all Records Officers or agencies who have been trained and/or who have participated in a training presentation by the Library of Virginia between 2017 and the current date. If the list is maintained in a database, an export of the data in .xls format would be preferable.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Shawn Breen

Mr. Breen,

A question to clarify:

Your request specifies the following as the records you seek:

List of all Records Officers or agencies who have been trained and/or who

From: Shawn Breen

It doesn’t look like your entire message came through. Could you ask your question again and I will try to clarify?

Basically, I am just looking to find out the names of the individuals and/or agencies who have been trained by LOV between the specified dates. I know that your office gives Power Point presentations from time to time.

Sorry about that: Here's the rest of my question.

From our previous correspondence I assume you mean RO's/agencies who have
participated in *records management/retention *training, not all training
from LVA. Is that correct? I don't think you're interested in other
training that might be given by other offices in the library in, say, how
to use a reference database or place interlibrary loan requests, but a
literal reading of your request could be interpreted that way. Let me know
if I'm correct about the limitation to records management training or if
you do, in fact, wish for the more broad list.

You’ve got it. Not looking for anything on the other types of training you mentioned.

Thanks again,

Mr. Breen,

We do not have a list of records officers trained - we don't keep a sign-in
sheet of attendees at training sessions, and there is no requirement for
training like there is for FOIA officers in the state so no real impetus to
do so. We didn't keep a list of agencies trained per se, either, but we
did regularly report a summary of our training and I therefore knew I had
sufficient emails to be able to respond to the request. Rather than
combine the emails, I just built the attached table.

I don't think this list is absolutely perfect - since we reported on an
annual basis, usually, and not more frequently, I think some of the
trainings given by our former analysts Riley O'Brien and Corey Smith may be
un-reported since they left between reporting intervals. But I think this
list is very nearly complete.
