The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) staff tries very hard to process and provide responsive records to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests within five working days of receiving a request pursuant to Code of Virginia § 2.2-3704 B. However, due to the number of requests, and the amount of time each request takes to complete, it is impossible for me, as the Public Information Officer, and DMAS staff, who assist with responses for FOIA requests, to always provide responsive records within five business days. As relevant DMAS staff that have input are out of the office and unavailable, in accordance with Code of Virginia § 2.2-3704(B)(4), the requested information is not readily available within five working days of the FOIA Office’s receipt of your letter. Therefore, this agency shall have until 3/25, seven additional business days, to respond to your request.
