From: Jamelia Morgan
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3704 et seq., I hereby request the following records:
All policies relating to, or mentioning, the word "ADA," "disability," "blind," or "deaf," or the phrase "Americans with Disabilities Act;"
The number of prisoners who have been identified by DOC as blind or as having visual impairments, if any;
The number of prisoners who have been identified by DOC as deaf or as being hard of hearing, if any;
The number of prisoners who have been identified by DOC as being blind and deaf, if any;
The number of prisoners who have been identified by DOC as having mobility impairments (e.g., spinal cord injuries, quadriplegia, etc.);
The number of prisoners placed in administrative segregation, protective custody, or similar status, and who have been identified by DOC as (1) blind or as having a visual impairment; (2) deaf or as being hard of hearing; (3) blind and deaf, and/or (4) having a mobility impairment.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
I know that responding to this request will take some time, and are willing to work with you on developing a production timeline. However, it is also necessary that we receive the responsive documents quickly enough to make them relevant and accurate. I hope that we can work together to identify a timeframe that is satisfactory to both parties.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Jamelia N. Morgan
