Dear Mr. Von Struckman,

This email is in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated March 4, 2024, seeking records pertaining to Hans Kammler. This office received the request by email on March 4, 2024, and assigned tracking number FP-24-012039.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is unable to act on the request because the records sought are not this agency’s records. USACE can only process FOIA requests for records that were/are compiled, made, or received by USACE under federal law in connection with USACE’s public business. The records must exist and be in USACE’s possession and control when the FOIA request is made. USACE does not generate, collect, or use records pertaining to WWII Nazis or the investigation or interrogation of SS officers.

I consulted with USACE historians who suggested that you may wish to direct your search to the National Archives (https://www.archives.gov). Records related to Army Engineers’ war time service may be found in the records of the Chief of Engineers (Record Group 77) or in the records of the specific Army organizations the engineer units were attached to. Additionally, captured German records make up several record groups at the National Archives.

If you would like to request specific documents that are USACE records, please feel free to submit a new FOIA request. My contact information is provided below. Please contact me if I can provide any further assistance.

Respectfully,

From: Tino Von Struckmann

Dear Ms. Raye L. Thornton

This is incorrect, this person and this research request is very much within the scope of the Army Corps of Engineers, General Kammler was the key figure in Nazi Germany who oversaw and controlled underground and above ground special constructions throughout. And it is quite clear that after German surrender the Army Engineers DID in fact survey all of these mentioned sites before hand over to the Russian Army.

The army did produce on vague report on many of these but they also documented its specific construction and the content found within, and those original photographs ans reports were drawn up by the Engineers among others. And those are the documents I am requesting.

Sincerely
Tino Struckmann
