This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

A copy of all responses sent to Congressional committees between Jan.1, 2008 and the date that this request is processed. These communications are stored together and should be easily accessible.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

This email acknowledges receipt of your October 2, 2013, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Please forgive the delay of this acknowledgement. In your request, You asked for:

“A copy of all responses sent to Congressional committees between Jan.1, 2008 and the date that this request is processed.”

Your request has been assigned FOIA Tracking Number 14-00386-F. Please refer to this number when you communicate with us about your request.

We searched our files and were unable to locate your requests which were submitted prior to October 2, 2013.

Can you please tell me more about the records you seek? Did you want to limit the scope of your request to the offices which are most likely to maintain the responsive records? That would include the Office of the Secretary and the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs.

Please be more specific about where we need to search. Should the search be limited to the Washington Office (Central Office)? Did you want the search to include VA facilities? Do we need to include each VA Administration listed below in the record search?

Veterans Health Administration
Veterans Benefits Administration
National Cemetery Administration

Please answer the following questions and/or correct the following statements as needed. This will help us to conduct a more efficient record search:

a. Is there a specific issue or subject matter that you are interested in?

b. Are you interested in outgoing correspondence only? We should not include enclosures in the record search.

c. Are you interested in policy-related documents, or constituent-based correspondence? (Note: Constituent-based correspondence may contain sensitive information concerning Veterans which cannot be released. Processing correspondence with sensitive information will required additional processing time.)

d. Can you please provide a direct telephone number and/or email address so we can contact you about your request?

We searched our files and were unable to locate your requests which were submitted prior to October 2, 2013.
