From: Brianna Cluck

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All written internal memos, emails, policy documents and other written or digital material related to the app "Pokemon GO", and all communications with Niantic and Nintendo of America regarding Pokemon GO "gyms," "pokestops" and Pokemon appearing on the app in military zones and on military bases, during the years 2016 and 2017.

This information serves the public knowledge, as 2016 has been called "Pokemon GO Summer," and several users of the app have noted a lack of Pokemon appearing on or around military bases.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brianna Cluck

Greetings,

The FOIA does not require Federal agencies to respond to questions, render opinions, do legal research, compile or analyze data, or conduct surveys for members of the public. The FOIA does not provide verification or locator services.

Your follow up email on January 30, 2024, did not provide any further clarification, to narrow the scope and unfortunately our office would still be unable to process your request.

This is not a denial of your request, nor does it prohibit you from submitting request in the future should you identify the specific Army documents you are seeking.

Thank you,
DA FOIA Office

Hello,

Let's narrow the scope to JUST any policy notices and training materials containing the terms "personal device use," "pokemon," Pokemon GO" or "Niantic" from the year 2016.

These records serve the public interest, as 2016 has been colloquially called "The Summer of Pokemon GO" and there are unsubstantiated reports of military personnel being told not to use the app on military bases.

If this request is still too broad, please advise me as to which part of this request is too broad and we can narrow it further.

If you cannot pull all records requested, a partial fulfillment would be acceptable with an explanation of which records were not able to be pulled.

Regards,

Brianna Cluck
