Re: Your Freedom of Information Act Request to the Federal Election Commission

(FOIA Request 2017-041)

Dear Mr. Russell:

This letter is in response to your request for information from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which was dated and received in our office on February 2, 2017. In your letter, you requested the “2016 receipts and disbursements for the Great Lakes Education Project, 2016 pre-election report for the Great Lakes Education Project and the 2016 post-election report for the Great Lakes Education Project.”

The FEC is an independent regulatory agency with jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for federal office. The Commission enforces the limits on the sources and amounts of contributions to candidates for federal office, reviews the registration and periodic reports of receipts and disbursements filed by federal political committees, and administers the public funding of Presidential elections. The type of information you requested is available for political action committees (PACs) registered with the FEC on our website at the following link: http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/candcmte_info.html. However, Great Lakes Education Project does not have a PAC registered with the FEC. Accordingly, we have located no responsive records.

You may contact our FOIA Public Liaison, Kate Higginbothom, at (202) 694-1650 for any further assistance and to discuss any aspect of your request. Additionally, you may contact the Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) at the National Archives and Records Administration to inquire about the FOIA mediation services they offer. The contact information for OGIS is as follows: Office of Government Information Services, National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi Road-OGIS, College Park, Maryland 20740-6001, e-mail at ogis@nara.gov; telephone at 202-741-5770; toll free at 1-877-684-6448; or facsimile at 202-741-5769.

If you are not satisfied with the response to this request, you may administratively appeal by writing to the Chief FOIA Officer, Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20463, or sending an e-mail to foia@fec.gov. Any such appeal should follow the guidelines set forth in the Commission’s FOIA regulations at 11 C.F.R. § 4.8. Thank you for contacting the FEC.

Sincerely,

Christopher Mealy FOIA Requester Service Center
