Ms. Russell,

I was notified today by the DON FOIA Office that you'd like an update on the status of your request. First, I'd like to apologize for not reaching out to you earlier to inform you of the referral. I thought the FOIA online system would do that automatically.

The data you were requested on the expulsion of the Chagossian people from Diego Garcia, and their relocation to Mauritius and Seychelles was not originated, and is not held, by US Fleet Forces Command. With the help of the DON FOIA office, it was determined that the Region Legal Service Office in Japan was the correct processing point. It was forwarded to that command, through the FOIA Online system, on August 2, 2016, for action and direct response to you.

The POCs for RLSO Japan are maryann.stampfli@fe.navy.mil or Christine.broussard@fe.navy.mil.

I have sent them an email asking for confirmation that they have received your FOIA request, since you obviously haven't heard anything from them. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Once again, I apologize for not getting this information to you sooner. If you don't hear something soon, please email me back and I will engage the DON FOIA Office for additional assistance.

Sincerely,

Linda J. Alvers
