Dear Mr. Craven,
This email is pertaining to your September 22, 2015, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) seeking "all email correspondence between VA Officials and staffers of House VA Chairman Rep. Frank Miller between April and September 2015."
The FOIA Service acknowledged receipt of your request on October 6, 2015.
I am contacting you pertaining to clarification, additional information, and the scope of your request.
It has been determined that this request is too broad to process. A request for records "must contain a reasonable description of the record desired so that it may be located with relative ease." See 38 C.F.R. §1.553(b). Your request, as written, is very broad and we need you to narrow the scope.

You state you are seeking "all email correspondence between VA Officials..." As written, being that you did not identify the particular "VA Officials" email boxes to search, your request would require a search of almost every VA mailbox which would constitute an overly burdensome and unreasonable search requirement on agency personnel.

Before we can begin processing your request, we need more specificity from you regarding specific mailboxes to search (i.e. Secretary McDonald, Deputy Secretary, etc.) Also, please provide specific search terms for VA to use when conducting the search.

If the required information is not received within 30 calendar days from the date of this email (due date July 14, 2015), we will assume that you are no longer interested and we will administratively close the file on your request. (See 38 CFR §1.554(4)(e))

Please contact me to discuss or if you have any question. You can send your clarification to the FOIA Service mailbox at: vacofoiaservice@va.gov<mailto:vacofoiaservice@va.gov>.

Sincerely,

Diane Cooke
