To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Government Records Access and Management Act, I hereby request the following records:

Policies, procedures and/or documents pertaining to indexing for FamilySearch, otherwise known as Intellectual Reserve, Inc., a genealogical non-profit operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) by inmates within facilities run by the Tooele County Sheriff's Office. This includes any documents regarding Family History Centers operated within such facilities, and any documents referencing LDS Correctional Services, a division of LDS.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Mr. Hermann,

I have not heard back from you on the email I sent you on 9/20/19 requesting further information on your GRAMA Request. Per Lt. Clinton our Jail Commander we do not have any policies and procedures in place for Indexing, hopefully this is the answer you were looking for per your request, if it is not please feel free to contact me, thank you.

Ms. Weaver,
You are correct that I did not respond to your email on September 20th. I meant to call, but I've been busy with being a full-time student and other responsibilities. While I am sending these messages through Muckrock, I am not affiliated with them in anyway or form. I was hoping to learn if Tooele County had a contract with FamilySearch (also called Intellectual Reserve, Inc. or FamilySearch International). Looking back in my records, there was one reason I requested from your office: Mel Gardner. On his LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mel-gardner-9b84555/) it says he "serves as director of LDS Correctional Services for Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele Counties" and that he provides "training and oversight to 20 LDS Correctional branches serving the Utah State Prison, Salt Lake Metro, Oxbow, Tooele, and Summit County Jails, Community & Federal Correctional Centers, and special transition branches for the homeless and chronically homeless." So, my thought was that it was a possible that Tooele County had a contract with FamilySearch.

While you stated that you don't have any policies or procedures in place for indexing, if you have any further questions you'd like to ask me, feel free to do so, as I'd be glad to answer them.

Best regards,
Burkely Hermann
