From:

Mr. Vernier

I have received your requests for records, regarding the Lawless investigation.

We are unable to release any information, due to the on going investigation.

The case was turned over to a special prosecutor and can not be released.

Respectfully,

Captain Danny Finley, 343
Scott County Sheriffs Office

From: Rob Vernier

Hello Captain Finley,

Thank you for addressing my request. I am aware that the case was recently turned over to a special prosecutor, and we don't wish to interfere with an ongoing investigation by publishing any confidential or private material.

However, as this case has attracted a high amount of public interest, there is a substantial amount of case material that's already been presented to the public. The CBS program "48 Hours" did an episode about this case in 2012 - after the initial suspect was exonerated - and used the material contained in my request. This case was also featured in an episode of "On the Case with Paula Zahn" in 2010. Below please find links the program, including a YouTube video of the crime scene video. As you'll see, the crime scene video has the CBSNews logo overlaying the footage.

My hope was to get a high-quality version of everything these shows have already aired, and directly from the source. In light of this information, would you reconsider my request? If it's helpful, I can send you a list/gallery of everything used in these shows that we'd want - but we'd love anything else that would be publicly available also. Please feel free to call me if easier to discuss over the phone.

Thanks,

Rob Vernier
