To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

(1) A list of all individuals processed who did not have a permanent address at the time of death (homeless individuals)
(2) Autopsy records and coroner's notes of previously stated individuals

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Mr. L'Etoile,
Thank you for contacting the Sacramento County Coroner's Office. I apologize for the lack of response other than the automated response form the website. Unfortunately, our CoronerWeb is not monitored to respond to Public Records Act (PRA) request. The County of Sacramento has a system just for PRA's that the public and the media routinely use. I'm in receipt of your PRA now, but if you have future requests, please use the website https://saccounty.nextrequest.com/requests/19-2610 so your request can be addressed in a timely manner. For this request, please use my email to correspond with me.

We often get requests for information on homeless deaths and in 2017, I produced the first report for media release from our new digital system. I've since completed and released two reports that are attached for you. I believe that these reports will be beneficial to you and answer your questions rather than getting hundreds of reports. This information is provided at no cost to you.

Prior to 2017, our system was not digital and pulling paper files was overly burdensome to produce information. Your request does not cover any particular time period and would entail too many hours to produce, review and redact that many reports for every homeless death ever reported to this office. Hopefully, the information I've already provided will assist you. If not, please let me know if your request can be narrowed in such a way as to allow us to conduct a meaningful search for any documents responsive to this request.
