Dear Ms Gottfried:

Executive Order 18 (Governor McGreevey, April 24, 2002) governs the release of vital records, which include marriage records. The Executive Order supersedes the statute governing access to government records at N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., and the processes therein established. Pursuant to that Executive Order, the State Registrar of Vital Statistics establishes the processes, forms, and fees for requesting copies of vital records here: http://www.nj.gov/health/vital/. If you have any trouble accessing the website or the forms, please call the office of the State Registrar toll-free at 866-649-8726 for assistance.

Please note: in future, you can submit requests for government records to the NJ Department of Health more conveniently using the online form at http://www.state.nj.us/health/opra/requests/. This form automatically populates our tracking system and ensures that the request goes to the proper custodian, thereby expediting the processing of requests.
