In order to quickly process your FOIA I will need to know what you believe
the "SEC" represents. For example, it could mean "secretary" or the
"Securities Exchange Commission (SEC)." I'm sure there are a myriad of
examples, so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
I also would like to know if you are interested in any of the news articles
that might also be sent to them, ie. Washington Post, Politico, Government
Executive, etc? This means only the ones they receive, not the ones they
comment on.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. To clarify:
I am only seeking records with the non-case sensitive keyword "SEC", if "SEC" is referring to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC).
I am not interested in receiving any news articles that are just sent to them.
If the amount of information that results from this search is still too voluminous, you may further narrow the scope by only releasing records that contain the text "@sec.gov" somewhere within the email header or email body. This would catch any email chain or message if some part or thread of the message was sent to, from, or copied to someone with a "@sec.gov" email address.

In your request, you sought access to, “all email accounts of David Sean Ferriero or Debra Steidel Wall from January 1, 2015 to Present Day that contain the non-case sensitive keyword “SEC”.
In an email dated September 11, 2017, I asked for your assistance in narrowing the scope of your request so that news articles, or various meanings of “SEC” could be excluded from the search. You responded on the same day explaining that you only sought those records that specifically referred to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
After conducting a search within the emails sent to; sent from; or copied to david.ferriero@nara.gov, and debra.wall@nara.gov, from the original beginning date, January 1, 2015 to the day we conducted the search September 28, 2017 using the search term “SEC”, and specifically “*sec.gov.” We were able to locate eighteen emails. Of those, two were sent by you (which are not included in this response), three were sent to Ms. Wall regarding the submission of resume’s and have been denied to you in full pursuant to 5 U.S.C. §552 (b)(6) personal privacy. Thirteen emails have been released to you, but with small portions redacted under (b)(6) of the FOIA and one email with a portion redacted pursuant to 5 U.S.C. §552 (b)(5) the deliberative process.
This completes the processing of your request.
If you are not satisfied with our action on this request, you have the right to file an administrative appeal within ninety (90) calendar days from the date of this letter via regular U.S. mail or email. By filing an appeal, you preserve your rights under FOIA and give the agency a chance to review and reconsider your request and the agency’s decision. If you submit your appeal in writing, please address it to the Deputy Archivist of the United States (ND), National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, Maryland 20740. Dear Taylor Amarel:
This is an update response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated September 11, 2017, and received in our office on the same day. Your request was assigned FOIAonline tracking number NARA-NGC-2017-000849, and the internal tracking number NGC17-566. In your request, you sought access to, “all email accounts of David Sean Ferriero or Debra Steidel Wall from January 1, 2015 to Present Day that contain the non-case sensitive keyword “SEC”.
In an email dated September 11, 2017, I asked for your assistance in narrowing the scope of your request so that news articles, or various meanings of “SEC” could be excluded from the search. You responded on the same day explaining that you only sought those records that specifically referred to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
After conducting a search within the emails sent to; sent from; or copied to david.ferriero@nara.gov, and debra.wall@nara.gov, from the original beginning date, January 1, 2015 to the day we conducted the search September 28, 2017 using the search term “SEC”, and specifically “*sec.gov.” We were able to locate eighteen emails. Of those, two were sent by you (which are not included in this response), three were sent to Ms. Wall regarding the submission of resume’s and have been denied to you in full pursuant to 5 U.S.C. §552 (b)(6) personal privacy. Thirteen emails have been released to you, but with small portions redacted under (b)(6) of the FOIA and one email with a portion redacted pursuant to 5 U.S.C. §552 (b)(5) the deliberative process.
This completes the processing of your request.
If you are not satisfied with our action on this request, you have the right to file an administrative appeal within ninety (90) calendar days from the date of this letter via regular U.S. mail or email. By filing an appeal, you preserve your rights under FOIA and give the agency a chance to review and reconsider your request and the agency’s decision.
