To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

The attorney discipline orders, including both formal discipline and so-called “confidential” discipline, from January 1, 2017 to the present date.

The EOIR regulates the professional conduct of immigration attorneys and representatives but operates in this capacity largely in secret. Recently the EOIR has announced “confidential” discipline against attorney for apparently-innocuous things. For example a recent description on the EOIR Facebook page states an attorney was disciplined for not moving to “recalendar” a case when there is no published rule or regulation requiring attorneys to move to re-calendar cases. https://www.facebook.com/doj.eoir/posts/2281647118729144

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Matthew Hoppock
