To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Records relating to or mentioning David Graeber (February 12, 1961 – September 2, 2020) an author of non-fiction, academic in anthropology, a self-professed anarchist and organizer of protests.

Graeber has been reported deceased in Venice, Italy; see attached as proof PDF's from the French website stephanelarue.com, which contains both original French language obituary and a Google Translate machine translation. Records pertaining to Graeber as a subject have diminished privacy interest recognized under the Privacy Act and the privacy exemptions of the Freedom of Information Act.

To assist in identifying records, the following is known about subject Graeber:

Full name: David Rolfe Graeber
First 5 digits of SSN: 122-58
Known states of residence: New York, Illinois, and Connecticut

Please conduct a search of the Central Records System, including but not limited to the ELSUR Records System, the Microphone Surveillance (MISUR) Indices, the Physical Surveillance (FISUR) Indices, and the Technical Surveillance (TESUR) Indices, for both main-file records and cross-reference records for all relevant names, individuals, agencies and companies.

If any potentially responsive records have been destroyed and/or transferred to NARA, then I request copies of the destruction or transfer slips as well as any other documentation relating to, mentioning or describing said transfer or destruction, to include but not be limited to confirmation that the Bureau has no other copies of said records.

For purposes of assessing fees, I request recognition as a representative of the news media requester.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

T. McElwee

From: T. McElwee

To whom it may concern,

I appeal the closure of my FOIA request, given Request No.: 1475178-000 with subject David Graeber, as I have grounds to believe (due to the unusually quick turnaround) that the search for records was inadequate.

I request a renewed search for the subject ("records relating to or mentioning David Graeber") and in the appropriate systems of records which, as originally stated, are "the Central Records System, including but not limited to the ELSUR Records System, the Microphone Surveillance (MISUR) Indices, the Physical Surveillance (FISUR) Indices, and the Technical Surveillance (TESUR) Indices, for both main-file records and cross-reference records for all relevant names, individuals, agencies and companies."

Thank you,
T. McElwee
