From: Maine State Police

Dear Ms. Young:

Good morning –

This email is sent to acknowledge our agency’s receipt of your FOAA request below.

Please be advised that our agency will not be waiving the fees that we are authorized by law to charge when processing FOAA requests.

In light of that fact, and because our agency has over 300 employees who – given the broad scope of your FOAA request – would need to search for responsive records, I anticipate that the total fee to process the request would be quite substantial, as would the amount of time that would be needed to complete our work on the request.

Given that circumstance, might the request be able to be modified in any way so as to narrow its scope to make it more time- and cost-efficient to process?

Respectfully, C

Chris

Dear Ms. Nelson:

Thank you for your email.

It appears that you modified your request by shortening the list of search terms in the third paragraph describing the scope of your request, from 8 search terms to 5 search terms.

Is that correct?

Respectfully, C

Chris

Dear Christopher,

I have never made a request of the Maine State Police before, and therefore cannot owe fees. Could you please send me the documentation that shows I owe fees?

Thank you,
