Transgender Inmate Information

Dear Shan Jumper:

This correspondence is in response to your request for public records pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) received on February 20, 2024. Your request seeks the following:

I am seeking the following information from your state department of corrections:
List of inmates who identify as transgender or gender diverse (names redacted is fine) and

a. Sex assigned at birth (M/F)

b. Gender identity (M/F)

c. Race

d. Holding Offense information

e. number of transgender MtF, FtM, Intersex, gender non-conforming, etc. inmates who have requested placement in institution consistent with their gender identity and status of those requests , and how many inmates currently housed in facility consistent with their gender identity.

Please note that the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) does not maintain records for or on behalf of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC). As a result, the Department does not have records responsive to your request.
