Pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All the pet licensing data, including breed, owner address, and animal names for Fairfax County.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

I am writing in response to your Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated December 4, 2013. On April 5, 2010, the County adopted a uniform policy for responding to FOIA requests. Based on this county-wide policy, we will need to charge you for the staff time and copying costs associated with responding to your FOIA request. This policy is in accordance with Virginia Code, Section 2.2-3704(F).

I can provide you with following information from our Animal Registration Database: owner name, address, date of payment, license year (in this case 2013), license number, male or female and spayed or neutered. If you would like this information, I can provide it electronically in Excel format (although it may come in multiple files due to the large size).

The cost will be $26.50 which represents time spent programming and downloading the data. Payment can be made by check made payable to the County of Fairfax and mailed to 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 357, Fairfax, VA 22035. Please send this to my attention. Payment must be received prior to the work being done.
