Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act., I hereby request the following records:
1. the total number of use of force incidents for 2016.
2. the total number of use of force incidents, separated by type of force and year used from 2016-2019 (for example, information that specifies the number of taser incidents in 2016, baton incidents in 2016, etc.)
When available, I would appreciate being sent individualized data for each item in this request in spreadsheet format. If individualized data are unavailable, please send information that includes aggregate statistics for the item instead.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Dear Samuel Sinyangwe,
Thank you for your request. It will be handled as soon as possible, but Illinois state law allows five (5) business days for a municipality to respond. The municipality may also request an additional five (5) business days if the municipality can demonstrate there are a large number of records or the need for extensive review. If the request is for a commercial purpose, then the municipality has twenty-one (21) business days to respond.

This is to advise you that your request for records pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act; is being researched and that we are requesting a five day extension to process this request. The five day extension is based upon the following statutory explanation: 5 ILCS 140/3(e)(iv) The time for response under this Section may be extended by the public body for not more than 5 business days from the original due date for the following reason: The requested records require examination and evaluation by personnel having the necessary competence and discretion to determine if they are exempt from disclosure under Section 7 of this Act or should be revealed only with appropriate deletions.
