Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 to 11), I hereby request the following records:
A log of all FOIA requests made in fiscal year 2013.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

The Chicago Police Department is in receipt of your FOIA request for a log of all FOIA requests made in fiscal year 2013. Our office has determined there were approximately 5,000 requests received in fiscal year 2013 and estimates it would expend over 100 hours of this office's manpower to process this request. In order for this request to be processed, each request would need to be reviewed and redacted for (at a minimum) the following:
1. Private information (home addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers)
2. Identifying information concerning victims and witnesses
3. Information the release of which would be an invasion of privacy
We are inquiring if you would be inclined to narrow your request to any specific item you are seeking from the CPD FOIA database? For example are you seeking the number of requests we received during that time? Are you seeking the date a FOIA was received, the FOIA number assigned and the date the FOIA was logged as complete?
