Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (California Government Code §§ 6250), I hereby request the following records:

Annual data since 2006 on the following:
The number of children in need of foster care and the number of families available to offer foster care (including any data describing the shortage if there is one)
Any changes in the requirements for foster care families
Data on the number of children removed from foster care families because of abuse or inadequate care/housing: including location of these cases, date, reason for removal, age of child, number of other children

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Per your request, the link below is part of the California Child Welfare Indicators Project (CCWIP), which is a collaborative venture between the University of California at Berkeley (UCB) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). The project is housed in the School of Social Welfare, and provides policymakers, child welfare workers, researchers, and the public with direct access to customizable information on California’s entire child welfare system. It has an array of child welfare and probation data on children and youth in California’s foster care system.
