From: Curtis Waltman
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the New York State Freedom of Information Law (1977 N.Y. Laws ch. 933), I hereby request the following records:
For the last five years, from 1/1/12 to the date this request is processed I seek annual expenditures on vehicle purchases, upgrades and maintenance. This is for any vehicles in operation by the department.
If there are any problems with the scope of my request, I would be happy to talk and reduce the time range or make other changes. Thank you.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Curtis Waltman

Your request is going to take more than twenty days to research.
Our Budget Examiner has to reach out to other departments pertaining to
parts, etc as this is handled by another department and they may not be
able to differentiate between police vehicles and other CIty vehicles
repaired at our Police Garage.
Additionally, manpower costs for mechanics, etc may not reflect working
just on police vehicles.
Due to the end of year workload of our Budget Examiner, this request will
take a couple of months to prepare.

After reviewing records, the following is the amount expended each calendar
year on vehicle purchases for
the City of Buffalo Police Department since 1/01/2012.
2012: $69,833
2013 $ 00.00
2014 $2,302,503.19
2015 $892,831.48
2016 $1,250,518.05
2017 $971,785.60
IT is unclear as to what is intended for maintenance as there are many
components that make up maintenance.
There is the salary of the personnel, cost of parts( which is covered by an
office at City Hall) etc.
Additionally, the personnel also provide service for other vehicles and it
would be difficult to break down just police vehicles.
