From: C. Scott Ananian

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

Communications regarding appointments to the Police Commissioners' Advisory Committee between the Town Administrator or members of the Select Board and members of the Brookline Police Association, including its president, Michael Keaveney, between May 1, 2021 and October 21, 2022.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

C. Scott Ananian

Thanks, Ben.  I logged in to the muckrock site and it still lists the request as "awaiting acknowledgement" so it does seem that whatever previous replies you may have sent were black holed.

Names and emails you are looking for:
Michael Keaveney OR president@brooklinepdunion.org
(He often uses president@brooklinepdunion.org in his emails, but I have no knowledge of whether he uses other email addresses in lobbying the Select Board, for example an email address @brooklinema.gov in his capacity as an officer, or a personal address, so I'd prefer not to limit the search to a specific email address and instead search by name.)

Key words to use in our search:
"Police Commissioners Advisory Committee" OR "PCAC"

Time period for our search:
May 1, 2021 through October 21, 2022. (spanning the period of time of the PCAC's existence, starting just before it was created.)

Thanks for reaching out!

Scott,
I wanted to reach out to you directly about the below request. We have attempted to respond to the email below with follow up questions about this request (and as an attempt to bypass the links in the email that the Town’s IT security has flagged) to make sure we send the documentation needed. I’m concerned our emails have ended up in a dead end. As the requester, I thought I would reach out to you directly. If this request is still something you are interested in, we can certainly produce responsive documents. Could you specify for us:
Names and emails you are looking for
Key words to use in our search
Time period for our search

Please note that an expansive request may require additional time to produce and properly redact responsive documents. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,Ben Kaufman
