To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

On or about August/September 2018, The Boston Globe obtained hundreds of jailhouse phone calls placed or received by Aaron Hernandez. The calls appear to have been made while he was awaiting trial. According to the publication, they obtained approximately 400 +/- hours of conversation between Hernandez and several other individuals. The Boston Globe will only use the calls they find interesting for their publication, as they have the right to do so. Therefore, American Media Inc. requests the same audio files obtained by The Boston Globe and if more exist we kindly ask to add them to this request. American Media Inc. requests a full copy of what was released to The Boston Globe pertaining to calls placed or received by Aaron Hernandez during his stay at the Bristol County Jail. If more audio than what was initially released exists, we kindly ask for those to be included.

We would prefer the request be fulfilled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

American Media Inc. ("AMI") is located at 4 New York Plaza, Level 2, New York, NY 10004 and is a representative of the news media and is primarily engaged in the dissemination of information to the public. AMI owns and operates the leading media brands in the country. Our magazines have a combined total circulation of 2.3+ million and reach 40+ million men and women each month. Our digital properties reach a total of 57+ million unique visitors and 750+ million page views monthly.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Nik Hatziefstathiou

Mr. Hatziefstathiou,

The Bristol County Sheriff's Office ("BCSO") is in receipt of your request for public records for the telephone records of Aaron Hernandez while in BCSO custody. The records obtained by the Boston Globe were not Mr. Hernandez' telephone records while in BCSO. They were from another correctional facility.

Mr. Hernandez' telephone records while in BCSO custody, including the call detail, will be produced. There are over 1,000 recorded telephone calls and they must be produced on CD-ROM discs. Presently, we believe that 5-6 discs will be needed for the telephone records.

In order to process your request, the cost of the CD-ROM discs and postage to mail them must be paid prior to processing the request. The estimated cost totals $6.00 ($4.00 for the discs and $2.00 for postage). Payment can only be accepted by cash, bank check or money order. No personal checks. Also, we do not recommend mailing cash. Payment by bank check or money order must be made payable to Bristol County Sheriff's Office and mailed to my attention at the address below.

Upon receipt of payment, the records will be mailed to you.

You have the right to appeal this decision to the Supervisor of Public Records under 950 CMR 32.08(1) and to seek judicial review by commencing a civil action in the Superior Court.

Thank you,
Lorraine Rousseau
