To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

A copy of all documents, memos, communications, arrest records, permit requests and surveillance files relating to the following political groups and members of said groups:
Resist Marxism
Boston Free Speech
Patriot Prayer
Patriot Front
American Guard New Hampshire

I'd also like to request any and all of the above types of files on Chris Hood, also known by his twitter handle "BDthanRed" and his instagram handle "thefuegofascist."

I am also seeking information including but not limited to participation of the aforementioned groups in the following events:
Boston Free Speech Rally, Aug. 19 2017
Boston Free Speech Rally/"Rally for the Republic", Nov. 18 2017
Boston Free Speech Rally, Aug. 18 2018
March for Our Lives, June 2 2018
Boston Women's March, Jan. 19 2019

I request that I be properly classified as a news media requester. I am an intern for MuckRock, and I am requesting this information in that editorial capacity. MuckRock is widely known for its investigative work as well as historical pieces based on public records requests.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Liam Knox

Dear Liam

The Boston Police Department has received your request for records. Before
we conduct a search to determine whether records exist, I ask that you
consider proving a date range. Providing a date range will reduce the
length of time required to review records, should any be located.

I await your reply.

Thank you,
Martha

Hi Martha,

My apologies for not providing a timeframe for this request either! I'd like a copy of all responsive records from 2015-2019.

Thank you!

Good Afternoon Liam:

I am working with Martha DeMaio on this request - I ask that you consider
narrowing the scope, including providing limiting key words. The results
to your request are voluminous.

I await your reply.

From: Liam Knox

Hello,

I don't really want to narrow my request much, since I am interested in files on all of the groups mentioned. I can limit the search for the aforementioned groups to just internal emails, arrest records, permit requests and surveillance files in which they are mentioned/which pertain to their members. I can also limit the search to records from 2016-2019.

I can also revise the third part of my request and limit the records to those containing information on the participation of the aforementioned groups in the following events:
Boston Free Speech Rally, Aug. 19 2017
Boston Free Speech Rally/"Rally for the Republic", Nov. 18 2017
Boston Free Speech Rally, Aug. 18 2018
March for Our Lives, June 2 2018
Boston Women's March, Jan. 19 2019

Please let me know if this reduced the search burden at all. If you could also give me a fee estimate, and an update as to whether my fee waiver would be accepted, that would be much appreciated; in the event that the cost exceeds my ability to pay, I am willing to further narrow the scope of my request.

Thank you!

Best,

Liam Knox
