The city of Arlington, TX developed an "Ask City of Arlington" Alexa command. Therefore, I hereby request the following records relating to that command:
- A copy of the Alexa "skill metrics" current to the date that this request is processed. This can be found in the Amazon Alexa developer console on the "Analytics" page. (https://developer.amazon.com/docs/devconsole/measure-skill-usage.html) Please provide a copy of the Summary page, Customers page, Sessions page, Utterances page, Intents page, and Retention page. Please expand all possible drop-down lists on the aforementioned pages. Please make the "Time Interval" option "Last 30 Days" when applicable.
- A copy of all digital communications—including emails and text messages, and any images or attachments—between the city of Arlington, TX and representatives from Amazon. Please limit the time range from February 1, 2018 to the time that this request is processed.
- A copy of all digital communications—including emails and text messages, and any images or attachments—that mention or refer to "Ask City of Arlington," an "Alexa command," or an "Alexa skill." Please include all emails that detail the development of the Alexa command with the person who developed it.
- A copy of all digital communications—including emails and text messages, and any images or attachments—that mention or refer to the "Ask City of Arlington" Facebook ad (ad ID: 1994942250806975) from run by the "City of Arlington, TX - City Hall" Facebook page between February 6 - 11, 2019
- A copy of any contracts, purchase, orders, invoices, or receipts related to the development of the "Ask City of Arlington" Alexa skill.
- A copy of any contracts, purchase, orders, invoices, or receipts related to Facebook ad ID: 1994942250806975.
- A copy of any privacy impact assessments, use policies, standard operating procedures, data retention policies, legal opinions, warranties, non-disclosure agreements, contracts, liability waivers, insurance agreements, Requests for Proposals, Responses to Requests for Proposal, Memorandums of Understanding, Letters of Interest, usage policies, or informal agreements related to the "Ask City of Arlington" Alexa skill.
- A copy of any funding opportunity announcements, grant applications and grantor status/progress reports, reports to legislative bodies, annual reports that mention the "Ask City of Arlington" Alexa skill.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes. It will be used in the course of reporting for BuzzFeed News. Therefore, I request that all fees are waived in the processing of this request.

Dear Caroline Haskins,
The City has reviewed your request for copies of public information. Section 552.2615 of the Texas Government Code requires that a governmental body provide a requestor with an item"[a] copy of all digital communications—including emails and text messages, and any images or attachments—between the city of Arlington, TX and representatives from Amazon. Please limit the time range from February 1, 2018 to the time that this request is processe d" returned approximately 25,000 emails. Due to the large number of emails, as well as the remaining records, the City has determined that the cost to produce the requested records will exceed $40. Below please find a detailed cost estimate for your open records request.
DVD [5 @ $3.00 each] : $15.00
Labor Fee (staff time to locate, compile, and redact information) .[70 hrs. @ $15.00 per hour] : $1,050.00
Overhead [20% of the labor fee] : $210.00 Postage/Supplies - Actual cost of postage, including boxes, labels, etc.: $5.00
Total: $1,280.00 Deposit: $640.00
Please note that under the Texas Public Information Act these records are also available for inspection. Although there may be some costs associated with inspecting, these costs are likely to be significantly less than those associated with receiving copies of the responsive records. You may visit our offices during business hours and inspect the documents. It is strongly suggested that you make an appointment.
You, the requestor, must respond to this notice in writing, either by mail, in person, by facsimile, or by electronic mail. If your written response is not received within ten business days after the date this statement was sent, your request will be considered to have been automatically withdrawn.
