To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Alabama Public Records , I hereby request the following records:

I am requesting records responsive to show the costs associated with Alabama’s defense of HB 56 — the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act. This includes but is not limited to its work in the following cases: Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act (HB 56), United States v. Alabama, Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama v. Bentley (HICA v. Bently), Parley v. Bently and Central Alabama Fair Housing Center v. Magee.

Records should provide a breakdown of all spending — including how much was spent, what each expense was for, and who received each payment — for all levels of litigation from start to finish. It should include, but is not limited to, costs associated with attorney’s fees (including the salary of state attorneys and any external attorneys hired by the state), expenses, fees associated with expert witness testimony and discovery expenses.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I would request your response within ten (10) business days.

Please note that I am a citizen of Alabama, and am using MuckRock's services to help manage and track my request.

Sincerely,

Connor Sheets
