This request is being made by a reporter as part of a journalistic investigation. It is being submitted as part of a project to better understand uses of police force nationwide, which has been of public interest for many years and which is of particular interest to large new swaths of the public following the widely-seen death of George Floyd and the First Amendment-protected demonstrations and public discussion that have followed.

In the event that there are fees appropriately assessed in association with this request, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Beryl Lipton

This correspondence is in response to a request for inspection or copies
of public records. Your request has been evaluated in accordance with the
Maryland Public Information Act, Annotated Code of Maryland, General
Provisions Article § 4-101, et seq. (MPIA). Specifically you have requested
a number of records pertaining to unmarked vehicles of the Department.

Pursuant to § 4-203(b)(2) of the MPIA, I reasonably expect that it will
take more than 10 working days to produce responsive records. The reason
for this delay is that I must coordinate with other county resources to
properly search for responsive records. I am processing your request and
anticipate a full response within 30 days of your request.

Sincerely,

This correspondence is in response to a request for inspection or copies of
public records. Your request has been evaluated in accordance with the
Maryland Public Information Act, Annotated Code of Maryland, General
Provisions Article § 4-101, et seq. (MPIA). Specifically you have requested
a copy of a number of data elements pertaining to this Department's
Unmarked Vehicles.

Upon search, we do not have a data source that maintains the records you
have requested specifically back to 2015; furthermore, MPIA does not
require an Agency to create a record specifically to respond to requests
made under the statute. I have attached the current inventory of unmarked
vehicles which is a snapshot of current vehicles in case that is of
interest to you. The additional attached records are responsive to your
request for other policy and related forms. In an effort to minimize
contact during the current public health issue, your copy fees have been
waived and the records are attached.

Sincerely,

Christine Ryder
