Communications

From: Andrew Free

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

A .csv printout of metadata showing communications (emails, calendar invites, tasks) sent or received by Bob Taylor - btaylor@uga.edu - through the Microsoft suite of products between Tuesday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00 pm eastern, and Friday, May 17, 2024, at 8:49 a.m. eastern, pertaining to the Open Records Request assigned tracking number “24-235”. Please include the following metadata: Sender, Recipient, CC, BCC, Subject, Date Sent, Date Received, Attachments, Message Size.

Responsive records would include, at minimum, a tasking or assignment email to records custodian(s) to search for these records, a description of the request, and notifications to stakeholders regarding the receipt of the request.

Thank you very much,

Andrew Free

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Andrew Free

Here you go…

Thank you!

From: University of Georgia

As could see, these were from the university’s open records email account, not btaylor@uga.edu.

From: Andrew Free

We did, indeed, see.

Could you please task the search we requested and provide any responsive records -- or confirm none exist?

From: University of Georgia

There are none in batylor@uga.edu.

Good morning,

If your response to this request is true, Mr. Taylor’s May 17 response to the underlying records request is false. (See: https://www.muckrock.com/foi/georgia-230/ugha-1a-163665/)

In that response — sent to achieve formal compliance with GORA’s 3-day deadline — Mr. Taylor represented that UGA “reached out” to custodians to determine what records existed and how much time would be required to retrieve and review any responsive records. But your response to this request demonstrates that did not happen.

Either there are responsive records to this request corroborating Mr. Taylor’s assertion in the underlying request, or Mr. Taylor simply made up that representation, in violation of the 3-day requirement and the letter, spirit, and purpose of GORA.

Please advise which story UGA wishes to go with?

Thank you in advance.
