This week’s FOIA round-up: The Bureau of Indian Affairs has a new policy to protect employees from workplace harassment and ICE detainees in San Diego are being subjected to medical neglect
In this week’s FOIA round-up, High Country News obtains the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ new employee harassment policy, documents obtained by the Voice of San Diego show Immigration and Customs Enforcement is neglecting to care for detainees with serious medical conditions, and sexual misconduct allegations against doctors in California have drastically increased over the past two years according to data obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
There are nearly 600 exemptions to the Tennessee Public Records Act, and the list keeps growing. However, a new state law could slow the adoption of new exemptions because it requires the Tennessee House’s Government Operations Committee to review any legislation that creates an exception to the TPRA, which requires government records to be open to public inspection.
A few weeks back, I filed with the ten largest police departments in the country for a list of all sexual harassment complaints or lawsuits from the past five years. The Miami Police Department was among the first to complete the request, releasing a single closed case from 2016. While that in itself is notable, what really stood out was they manner in which they released this information: a 96-page spreadsheet that was completely redacted other than the row containing what I asked for.
