I was trying to find out if the FBI had anything on Chuck Barris, the Gong Show creator who claimed to be affiliated with the CIA. They came back with nothing (I asked for searches of ELSUR and other surveillance indices). Should I appeal, and what does one say in an appeal like this? Just search again?

Yes, always appeal. Appeals produce new documents in a shockingly high number of cases.

Right, that’s what I hear. Do I have to specifically request anything in the appeal, or is “I appeal” simply enough?

Jack R-W

You can appeal for any reason. “ I appeal because I do not think there was an adequate search made for these records.” would be fine in this case.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip.
