I’m profiling a former federal inmate and would like to collect his files from all of the federal prisons where he was detained. Besides his full name, inmate number, the list of prisons, the dates of his detainment, and a signed copy of Dept of Justice form 361 (Certification of Identity), I’m wondering if I need to be more specific. Thanks for any guidance — my first public records request!

The two important pieces of BOP jargon are “inmate central file” and “medical file”. You’ll definitely be fine with all of the information that you have.

Thanks!
