Edgardo Rodriguez

Hi Pat,

I would like to know if it would be best to hire a lawyer to obtain records requested. I see that Muckrock has sent a request for status every month without obtaining a response from the FBI. Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hi,

Which request is this in reference to? FBI average response time is about 114 days, but before hiring a lawyer you can also file an administrative appeal or reach out to OGIS (https://ogis.archives.gov/). Doing either of these doesn’t mean you can’t file suit later, but can often lead to quicker resolutions without requiring an attorney.

By law, federal agencies must provide an estimate response time; sometimes it requires reminding them of this to get one.
