I’m seeking FBI FOIA files on three dead individuals that were all known associates, primarily from Baltimore and the Ocean City, Maryland area with secondary activities in the State of Florida.

This morning I received the following request from the FBI for actual documentation and source:

__x___A website link in itself does not satisfy the proof of death requirement (Please provide the actual documentation and source)

Do I copy these obituary pages and put them in PDF format and send them to Muckrock or just email them directly to the FBI FOIA Div. ?

Thanks

They want you to download the page and send it as an attachment, I think. You could also copy/paste the entire text and see if that works.

Thanks

Do I send this thru Muckrock and let them sent it to the FBI as part of the Muckrock process or:

Just send it straight to the FBI ,which I can do easily, without any problem.

I’m not sure, actually. You should email Muckrock (info@muckrock[dot]com) and see if they can handle it for you.

This appears to be a new FBI requirement for FOIA because I believe in the past I only sent a link to the Obituary of the Deceased and it was acceptable, as opposed to this new twist where they require a copy/PDF of the actual obituary page website.

I received the FBI request thru Muckrock on Monday and Monday evening I printed out the various Obituaries as hard copies and scanned them into a PDF file and emailed them to the FBI.

By Tues. the FBI FOIA division had informed me that this was in compliance with their request and would begin the search.

I’ll email Muckrock a copy of the PDF and the FBI FOIA Div. acceptance this evening.
