Is there any FOIA equivalent for private companies? In particular, I’m trying to find out what information a software company has on an individual, myself or anybody else.

In Canada there is PIPEDA, and the law allows you to request such personal information from private companies just like a government agency, but I can’t think of any equivalent in the U.S.

Anybody know of any less well known acts that could be used to request information from a private company?

Thanks,

Llew

You can certainly ask them. There is no law in the US forcing them to do it, though.
