I’ve just put one in (outside of Muckrock) for a string of unsolved cases from the 1970s. By all accounts, they are extremely cold cases and not actively being investigated at all. But the CPRA language seems to use the statute of limitations as the boundary for whether an open case is releasable, and there is no statute of limitations for murder in CA. Anyone have any experience with this?

California rarely gives out police data. You are not going to get anything from California regarding cold cases.

Alright, well the request is already in. This is in San Francisco where the Sunshine Ordinance has some promising language. I’ll report back whether or not I get anything!
