Haters: Documenting Extremist and Hate Groups
Exposing extremist hate groups through government documents, ranging from the small time racist groups to the domestic terrorist branches of the KKK. This project takes an inclusive approach of identifying hate groups, regardless of whether they focus on race, sexual identity, religion, etc.
This project also examines the relationship between the FBI and civil rights groups that monitored hate groups and provided information to the Bureau after its ability to infiltrate or even monitor right-wing and extremist groups were strongly curtailed in the wake of COINTELPRO.
After going to prison for embezzling a paltry sum from the German-American Bund, the would-be Führer Fritz Kuhn came up with a plot to con his way into a shorter sentence - only to have it fell apart because his supposed patsy turned him into the FBI.
