We’ve received police disciplinary files from prosecutors in Ohio, Florida, and Washington. Now, we want your help reviewing the documents.
This week, MuckRock published an investigation with Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism at WHRO into police decertification in Virginia. The reporting is part of a larger project to open up more police misconduct documents across the country, and we want you to join our investigation.
In New York, our team of reporters obtained over 27,000 pages of police disciplinary files. We think our approach can work in more states around the country.
So far, MuckRock readers have told us where to request police disciplinary files in more than 20 states across the country. We’ve begun filing and will continue to ask you to be part of the work. If you’re interested in being part of the investigation and doing things like filing and tracking requests yourself, appealing rejections or reviewing documents, let us know.
