Thirteen years ago, the writer Hunter S. Thompson sat down at his kitchen desk - a typewriter at his seat and a Smith and Wesson Model 645 in his hand - and never stood again.

According to accounts, Thompson had been on the phone with his wife Anita Thompson, who didn’t hear the click of the handgun as he aimed it toward his head. Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, the hometown police for Hunter’s corner of Colorado, has provided reports from those moments after the legendary writer’s final breaths.
