Mr. Wallace,

After contacting our Traffic Management IT Manager, I received the following response regarding your request:

The write-up on the Internet under question #8 is outdated and is in the process of being changed. The software mentioned is over 10 years old and no longer used. This program contained licensed sub modules and WSDOT has removed all copies as the licenses have expired.
WSDOT now uses new Cohu cameras and Axis encoders. These newer video sources directly provide JPEG images. We fetch the images using a standard HTTP Get command and place them directly on the Internet web hosting machines. AXIS has examples of JPEG image retrieval that can be scripted directly on a web-hosting machine. WSDOT suggests contacting the AXIS media company as we do not have their source code.

Therefore with no records to provide your request is closed with the summary provided and my letter attached.

Sincerely,

For clarification, did WSDOT delete all of the VDS source code, or just the licensed sub modules? If it was just the licensed sub modules, the source code to the rest of the VDS system should still be responsive to my original request, and I am still interested in it.

Thanks!

Kevin Wallace

Mr. Wallace,

I received this reply to your clarification question:

We purged the backups. The code base was for analog NTSC interfaces using analog video switches. We used libraries from the capture card manufacturer. When we tossed the cards, would could no longer compile the code. The entire market has dropped NTSC video so we could see no use in keeping the old code. It would be faster for WSDOT to recreate the VDS project using Microsoft .NET and C# rather than resurrect the old project code.

If you have further questions or would like to discuss our processes, please contact our IT Manager Michael Forbis, his contact information is:
