Administration cites 'terrorism' concerns to keep NJ coronavirus weak points secret (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8N04 ) - Officials have said publicly that New Jersey didn't have enough protective gear for the workers in hospitals and nursing homes who led the battle against COVID-19. They refused to give the public details about which facilities lacked critical safety gear, saying that releasing such information could tip off terrorists to vulnerabilities.

Bill strengthening public records laws in Tennessee passes (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8P04 ) - A proposed law prohibiting local governments from destroying certain public records won final TN House approval Tuesday and is now headed to Gov. Bill Lee for his consideration. The legislation passed 93-0.

34 million criminal cases now removed from public view under PA’s Clean Slate Law (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8Q04 ) - More than 34 million criminal cases have been removed from public records under the Pennsylvania’s Clean Slate Law. The law, the first of its kind in the United States, was implemented last June and provides for the automatic expungement of public records pertaining to low-level crimes.

Amazon bans police use of its face recognition software for a year (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8R04 ) - The ban makes Amazon the latest tech giant to step back from law-enforcement use of systems that have faced criticism for incorrectly identifying people. But the company isn’t abandoning facial recognition altogether. Read on to learn more.

Recent Georgia voting havoc raises new doubts on pricey voting machines (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8S04 ) - Georgia elections officials implemented over $100 million in high-tech voting systems last year, but good-government groups, a federal judge and election-security experts warned of its perils. They argued the new system was too convoluted, too expensive, too big — and was still insecure.

New legislation could mean oversight of NYPD spy tools (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk8PBjW5_xC2360V5XzW7kKcRd55w9XsW2zjzNq8VpL9HdBzP8T04 ) - The act would require the NYPD to inventory and publicize all of the surveillance devices that they use. It would also force the department to create a "surveillance impact and use" policy, or privacy policy, that creates guidelines for data collection and protection.
