Re: Acknowledgement of Receipt of Your Public Records Request 17-251 Received June 21, 2017

Dear Ms. Southerland:

This letter is to acknowledge receipt of your Public Records Request 17-251 seeking:

The list of all entities that provided SESRC (Social & Economic Sciences Research Center) with personal information contained in the hard drive referenced in the following press release:
https://wsu.edu/security-incident/
I've also attached a PDF copy of the above website in case the URL is changed or the site taken offline.

We hope to complete our review of records responsive to your Public Records Request and respond to you by July 27, 2017, however, more time may be necessary.

Your request for WSU records is not confidential. All Public Records Requests are public records. The records responsive to a request may contain names, identifiers, or information about other people (such as employees, former employees, students, former students, or third parties). WSU may send a notice to people named in the records informing them that their name, identifiers, or other information about them will be disclosed under the Public Records Act and provide them sufficient time in which to seek legal counsel to determine whether to file a motion in Whitman County Superior Court to enjoin disclosure. When we send such notices to people named in records, we also provide a copy of the request with the notice.

The University charges fifteen cents a page for photocopies or to scan paper records to create a pdf in accordance with RCW 42.56.120, WAC 504-45-070(1), and WAC 44-14-07003.

If creation of an electronic version other than pdf is requested and would require specialized programming, RCW 43.41A.130 allows the University to charge some fees for customized access, including actual staff programmer time. If this is necessary, we will confer with you prior to doing so.

Please contact this office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Re: Extension of Time -- Your Public Records Request

Dear Public Records Requestor:

We had hoped to complete the review and processing of records responsive to your Public Records Request by the date given in our Acknowledgment letter sent to you when we received your Request. However, due to the complexity of the search and the increased number of Requests to the Public Records Office during a critical staffing shortage, we will require additional time.

We anticipate responding to your Public Records Request within 30 days of the original calculated response date, however, additional time may be required. If that is the case, we will contact you with an update.

Calls or emails to other offices regarding your Public Records Request will be routed to our office and responded to as quickly as possible.

We apologize for a delay in fulfilling your Request. We are doing our best to meet the increased number of Requests as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Re: Extension of Time -- Your Public Records

Dear Ms. Southerland:

I had hoped to complete the review and processing of records responsive to your Public Records Request 17-251 by this date. I regret that I will have to extend the date again, but I want to assure that your request is in process. We are still working to compile a list of data providers, but that is proving to be an ongoing challenge. Thousands of hard copy files are being combed through manually, and as of yet any list we could provide would be incomplete and unreliable.

I anticipate responding to your Public Records Request by October 2, 2017, however, additional time may be required.

Please contact this office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
