We need clarification regarding the records you are seeking.

OSPI is the primary agency charged with overseeing K-12 public education in Washington State and we work with the state's 295 school districts to administer basic education programs and implement education reform. OSPI provides funding, resources, tools, data, and technical assistance to educators. We are one point of escalation for certain concerns, complaints, and issues; however, in Washington State, school districts are self-governing public entities. OSPI does not maintain internal records, including writings and lawsuits, for the districts/schools. You will need to contact them for their records.

If you would like to pursue the records you are requesting through the district, let us know and we will close your request. If you would like OSPI to search our records for anything responsive to your request, please let us know and we will process it accordingly.

Pursuant to RCW 42.56.520, this email is the acknowledgement of receipt of your request within five business days. Please note, if we do not receive a response with your clarification within 10 business days, your request will be considered closed per WAC 392-105-070(8).

Thank you for your response. I request that OSPI conduct a search for records responsive to my request. Thank you.

From: Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

Thank you for your response!

We will begin searching our records to determine the location, amount, and nature of our records, if any, that may be responsive to your request. In accordance with WAC 392-105-070(3) & (5), if we have responsive records, we anticipate we can make an installment available on or before March 2, 2020. If the records are ready prior to that time, we will notify you. If this timeline requires adjustment or we need further clarification, we will advise you as well.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Good Afternoon,

Attached to this email are all responsive records OSPI located for your request.

As you will notice on the responsive document(s), there are black boxes (redactions) on various pages and/or there may be multiple redactions on a page. Within the redaction(s) is a code that designates the statutory exemption being applied to the redaction. We have attached a key to the exemption codes associated with the redactions made to the document(s). As you review the responsive documents, you will be able to refer to the key to identify the exemption and application to each redaction. Please note, if there are numerous redactions on one page but only one code, the statutory exemption being claimed applies to all the redactions on that page.

This email completes OSPI's response to your request. Your request is now considered closed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

OSPI is committed to providing quality service and achieving excellence through continuous improvement. Please take a few minutes to complete a short survey regarding your public records request experience at this link: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3672919/Public-Records-Request-Survey.
